轰炸已停止了火焰熄灭了
The bombing has stopped.
The fires are out.
欧洲处于一片废墟之中
Europe lies in ruin.

The dead are gone forever.

The living carry on.

no gas, no water,

Time to count the cost.

Springtime 1945.

The end of the war in Central Europe.
千年帝国的终结
The end of the thousand-year Reich.
不洁肮脏
Untidy. Messy.
一段没有怜悯的时间
A time without pity.
一段残忍♥的时间,
A time of brutality,

rape.
报复
revenge.

The Germans come back from the eastern
lands they'd tried to conquer,

where some had lived for generations.

They'd been bad masters.

Now they pay the price.

that began in 1914.

There was a long armistice in that war.

ln the process of coming to the end,

what happens is that sweeping into Europe from
the outside are the Russians and the Americans.

And they meet at Torgau
on the Elbe River in May of 1945...

with the result that no European nation
wins the European civil war.
这场欧洲内战的赢家事实上是外来者:
The winners in the European
Civil War are in fact outsiders:
俄♥国♥人和美国人...尤其是美国人
the Russians and the Americans...
most of all the Americans.
所以欧洲大♥陆♥的实际控制权落入了三个外来者
的手中...因为英国人也是其中一分子,
So that you have the physical control of
the Continent in the hands of three outsiders,
really...because the British were a part of it,

l lost all sorts of insignia

All of them were friendly. All the Russians were
very friendly. A lot of them didn't speak English.

propagandised into seeing Russia as a democracy,

a land of freedom lovers,

with essentially broad social aims
about the same as those of the West...

which seemed to make sense,

since they were clearly an enemy of
the Nazis, as we were enemy of the Nazis.

Thus, it appeared
we had a great deal in common.

There was great hope in the world
that this would in fact happen...
(那就是)这是最后一场战争
that this was the last war.
胜利者现在能够和睦地合作,
That the victors would now be able
to cooperate in peace,
就象他们在战争中所做的那样,以确保
"四个警♥察♥",就如罗斯福喜欢指称的,
as they had in war,to see to it that "the
four policemen",as Roosevelt like to refer,
英国,法国,苏联和美国,
Britain, France, the USSR
and the United States,
有时候把中国算进去时是"五个警♥察♥",
sometimes "the five policemen"
with China thrown in,
将能够确保世界上不再有侵略
would be able to see to it that there
would be no more aggression in the world.
这场战争具有一些重要的意义,
That the war had meant something,
打这场战争是为了一些重要的东西,
而不只是简单地反对纳粹主义
that it had been fought for something,
rather than simply against Nazism.
有制定计划的时候,
There is a time for making plans,
也有采取行动的时候
and there is a time for action.
行动的时候就在这里,现在!
The time for action is here, now!

Nation by nation,the delegates stand up for
the great new charter they hammered out together.

unanimous for peace.

Now final signing of the charter.
中国作为这场战争中第一个
被攻击的国家第一个签字
China signing first, as the first nation
attacked in this war...

topping the long list to come.
然后轮到俄♥国♥,葛罗米柯大使也代表他的国家(签字)承诺
履行经过几天几夜妥协和合作所决定的协议和目标...
Then for Russia, Ambassador Gromyko commits his country
also to the agreements and objectives decided upon,
after days and nights of compromise and cooperation...
世界现在将其希望寄托在四个主要机构身上
four main agencies upon which
the world now puts its hope.
