approached the American
commander at Bastogne,

General Anthony McAuliffe
of the 101st Airborne.

The Americans' situation
was hopeless, they said.
小镇投降了
The town was surrounded.

They demanded
the Americans surrender.

McAuliffe had a one-word
answer: "Nuts!"

The Germans had
no idea what he meant,

and the shelling started again.
