Well, anyway, I put on
my red and white bikini,

and went out in the backyard,
and I gave my mother my camera.

I says, "Here. Take a picture.

I'm going to be his pinup girl."

And he carried that
through the war with him,

and he said that he received
a lot of comments

from his buddies when they
saw that picture, because,

after some of them saw
it, they says, well,
他们看着他再看看照片
they looked at him, and they
looked back at the picture
又再看看他
and they looked at him again,
他们说“她看上了你哪一点？”
and they says,
"What does she see in you?"
我桌上有张他的照片
And I had a picture
of him on my desk...
他在法国照的一张相片
one that he took in France...
因此我与他同在他也与我同在
so I was with him,
and he was with me.

The best joke I remember
最好笑的就是..
about the war, uh...

was not a joke that was told,
but that one saw.

I think it was on Eniwetok,
in the, uh... in the...
军官俱乐部的酒吧里
Officers' Club bar.

Above the bar, uh...
有一只巨大的奶罩子
there was, uh...
an enormous brassiere,

as I remember, mounted
on a board like a tarpon.

And underneath, it said,
"Remember Pearl Olson."

"February 3, 1945.

the Japs, except Daddy.

He was sure
it was the Americans."

The liberation was the most
exciting thing in my life.

2月3号♥那天
So on the third of February,
我父亲陪我走到主楼
my father walked me
to the main building.
而我们正走在路上
But while we were walking,
就听到远方巨大的隆隆声
we heard these big rumblings
in the distance.
通常发生这种事
And usually when that happened,
我们能够..那个时候我们的耳朵已经练出来
we could, all right, we had
trained ears by this point.
我们知道那是大型轰炸机从头顶袭来
We knew it was the big bombers
coming overhead.
但当我们走着我们注意到
But as we walked, we noticed
声音越来越大..
the... it was, the noise was
getting louder and louder,
但没有飞机出现
but there was no planes
appearing.
我们觉得这真奇怪
And we thought that was weird.
人们跑出棚屋说“哇！
And people were coming out of
their shacks and saying, "Gee!
这次不一样”
Isn't...
this is a different thing."
开火！
Fire!
我们听到枪炮声传来
And we heard guns going off.
“那些英国人在说‘噢那是英军！
The Brits were saying,
"Oh, it's the Brits!
“英军来了！
"The Brits are coming!
他们在那儿英国佬来了！”
They're here!
The Limeys are here!"
而美国人说“别傻了
And the Americans said,
"Don't be silly.
来的是美军”
This is the Americans coming."
所以我们..
So, we were doing...
来回奔跑
rushing back and forth,
因为有炮火射击和巨响
and because of the fire,
the firing and the noise,
人们就到处乱跑知道吗
people were just running around,
you know?
他们没有待在原地
They weren't staying put.
突然间..后来我们才知道
All of a sudden... and it was,
we didn't know this till later...
差不多晚上9点差3分
it was, like, three minutes
to 9:00 in the evening,
他们过来了用坦克
they came through, crashed
through the front gates
撞开前门
with their tanks.
这太美妙了
And it was wonderful.
人们要疯了
People went crazy.
你会认为战争已经结束但还没有
You'd think the war was over,
but it wasn't.
我母亲体重73磅卧床不起
My mother was bedridden
at 73 pounds.
我妈妈总是说
My mother always said,
“我们总要留点东西等我们的小伙子来时穿”
"Now, let's always keep one item
to wear when our boys come in."
所以她留着半截口红
So she had
a half-eaten lipstick.
我留的东西..我都忘了..一只袜子
I had something, I forgot,
a sock, which is now, you know,
没有鞋也就没必要穿袜子
no shoes, there's no point
in wearing a sock.
我妹妹有个发夹..条状发夹
My sister had a clip,
a barrette.
所以当我父亲去接我母亲
And so when my father picked up
my mother
跑出棚屋时她说“等等！等等！”
and ran out of the shanty,
she says, "Wait! Wait!"
他不明白为什么
So he couldn't understand why.
她说“回去”
She said, "Go back."
于是她伸手到她的床垫下
So she reached underneath
her mattress
拿出她的口红涂上
and pulled out her lipstick
and put it on.
她说“现在我准备好去见小伙子们了”
She said, "Now I'm ready
for my boys."

At Santo Tomas prison in Manila,

safe at last, the internees
gather for evacuation back home.

Pitifully undernourished,

to cook their new Army rations.

News from home,
after three long years;

the Red Cross distributes
letters from loved ones

these internees had thought they
might never hear from again.
美国大兵们押送日本守卫离开集中营
As GIs escorted the
Japanese guards out of the camp,
一些孩子跟在他们后面跑嘴里喊着
some of the children
ran after them shouting,
“小伙子们让他们鞠躬！
"Make them bow, boys!
Make them bow!"
4天之后
Four days later,
麦克阿瑟将军亲自探望圣托马斯
General MacArthur himself
