American anthropologist Renato Rosaldo

was living amongst a tribe of headhunters in a Philippine rainforest,

when he encountered a tribal word he couldn't translate.

The word was "liget,"

and it appeared to be a singular emotion unlike any in the English language.

The villagers felt "liget" when they thought of a loved one they missed terribly.

But it was more than longing, more than heartache.

For as much as liget may seem like a feeling of loss,
