and seen as a step towards
Nixon's Vietnamization.
这次行动被看做是尼克斯进行战争越南化的第一步
April 23rd, 1971.

Army Warrant Officer
Fred Behrens, Airborne,
美国陆军准尉弗雷德·贝伦斯驾驶着直升机
undertakes a fateful
helicopter mission
为拯救受伤的美国部队
to save wounded U.S. troops.
进行了一次重大的直升机任务
- It was a hot mission,
这是一次很不简单的任务
which meant that the
people on the ground
地面上的士兵
were in contact with the enemy.
跟敌人是有直接接触的
- [Voiceover] With air
cover by Cobra helicopters,
在眼镜蛇直升机的空中掩护下
Behrens and his crew
are riding high stakes.
贝伦斯和他的队员冒着巨大的危险
His second trip into
airlift wounded out

will place him
amongst their ranks.

- We landed, and everybody
jumped on the aircraft
我们着陆之后
that was on the ground.

And as I picked it
up to a high hover,

I got shot through
the left ankle

and it blew my left foot
off the control pedal.

And we went into a
hard right-hand spin.

Pain was intense.

And I jammed my foot
down back on the pedal,

but I couldn't feel anything.

But I felt my right
foot coming back up.

And I knew that I had
my foot on the pedal.

And I got the aircraft
under control.
所以又重新控制住了直升机
And I continued the
turn to the left.
然后我一直向左转
And at that time they had hit us
那个时候他们击中了我们
I believe in the engine
with an M79 grenade.
我想应该是M79手榴弹击中了引擎
- [Voiceover] His crew
chief killed by enemy fire,
他的机工长被敌军杀死了
Behrens manages to
bring the craft down.
贝伦斯竭尽所能地将飞机打了下来
When he calls in a Mayday,
当他发出求救信♥号♥♥的时候
Behrens is told that the LZ
他们告诉贝伦斯
is too hot for any more rescues.
着陆区太危险了无法进行救援
He is on his own in a war zone.
在战区上他只能靠自己了
A U.S. Cobra fires its
mini gun the next morning
次日一早一架眼镜蛇直升机
hitting Behrens and
killing his crew chief
用迷你枪误伤了贝伦斯
with friendly fire.
误杀了他的机工长
A North Vietnamese
sniper strikes later
之后一个北越狙击兵出现了
killing another of the crew
茬开枪打贝伦斯之前
before shooting Behrens,
击毙了另一个队员
who takes the
sniper down himself.
后来是贝伦斯击毙了这个狙击兵
- And at that time
it was just myself
当时就只有我自己
and Issako Malo,
this one ranger.
还有一个叫伊沙克·马洛的突击队员
And we moved again.
我们继续移♥动♥
And, you know, two
North Vietnamese
后来又有两个北越士兵
opened up on us with
their machine gun.
拿着枪对准我们
And Issako was out of
ammunition by that time.
当时伊沙克已经没有子弹了
And I fired up on the two
North Vietnamese and got them.
我击毙了那两个北越士兵
And Issako said we needed
to go and start heading
伊沙克说我们要继续走
toward the A Shau Valley floor.
逃向阿肖谷谷底
And I told him I couldn't.
我跟他说我走不了了
By that time I'd
been shot five times,
当时我已经中了五枪
and I told him I couldn't
make it any further.
我说我已经走不远了
So, and I told him
to keep on going.
我让他自己继续走
We discussed that, and he
didn't want to leave me.
虽然我们这么说好了但是他不愿意留下我
But I told him to keep on going.
但是我让他继续前进
So he got up and he ran for
the floor, for the A Shau.
于是他站起来冲向阿肖谷
And he ended up being
captured the next morning.
结果第二天早上他被捕了
- [Voiceover] The North
Vietnamese are not
北越的士兵
the only threat left for
the wounded Behrens to face,
并不是受伤的贝伦斯面临的唯一威胁
but the war zone itself.
这个战区本身也是一个威胁
- On Sunday the
25th, I crawled out
到了星期天也就是25号♥
in the middle of
the landing zone.
我爬到了着陆区的中心
And a fighter came
in, the Phantom,
有一架幻影战斗机出现了
and he dropped off
a pair of bombs.
机上的人投了两颗炸♥弹♥
And they landed on
both sides of me.
就落在我的两边
I was down in a
little bomb crater
我当时在一个弹坑里
in between a couple
of tree trunks.
被几根树干包围着
And bombs landed
on each side of me
炸♥弹♥落在了我的两侧
and blew me and my tree
trunks up in the air.
将我和树干都炸飞了
I ended up getting some
shrapnel wounds in me.
弹片让我受了内伤
And that was, I figured it was

just about all over for me.
当时我全身应该都是弹片
- [Voiceover] A group of
rangers happened upon Behrens
几个突击队员在追敌的时候
while pursuing the enemy.
碰巧发现了贝伦斯
They leave their canteens
with the parched Behrens,
他们将水壶留给了被炸伤的贝伦斯
hesitant to leave him.
不知道要不要弃他而去
Fred Behrens is medevaced
out shortly after.
弗雷德·贝伦斯随后立即被救伤直升机救走了
His injuries stay with
him the rest of his life.
他的伤口陪伴了他剩余的人生
- I was in the hospital
for almost a year
我被救之后
as an inpatient.
在医院里呆了差不多一年
And as an outpatient,
出院之后
well, I'm still an outpatient.
至今依然是一个病人
But I was
在被救后的几年里
being treated as an inpatient
我依然频繁地进出医院
on a very frequent basis for
several years afterwards.
接受住院治疗
You know, a lot of the wounds
我受的伤
just don't heal up quickly.
很多都不容易痊愈
