人群越来越密集
the crowds become more intense.
而且就算那里没有人群
And even if there isn't a crowd,
你的大脑也在快速的思考着
your brain is thinking compression.
因为这里是如此密集和紧张
Because it's so dense and intense,
很难发展新的空间和新特色
it's hard to manage new spaces and new characteristics.

We immediately assume

that we should just clear everything out,

make more space.

However, in the bigger scale

of what such a space is,
如果你移除所有东西
if you remove everything,

it becomes an alien space to people.
他们就不知道该怎么走了
They don't know how to move.
没有一个参照物
There are no parameters.
也没法做出反应了
There's no way for you to react.

Behavioral activities
是很多很多生物一起分享的
are shared amongst many, many creatures,
因为我们多数的行为都是无意识的
and that's because much of our behavior is unconscious,
所以我们自带着
so we carry with us
这种抽象的行为和决定
these abstract movements and decisions
可实际上我们不自知
that we're not really aware of.
我看着走过
I looked to cross
纽约中♥央♥火车站的主厅
the main hall of Grand Central terminal,
有个问询处我意识到是这个房♥间里的死点
and this kiosk, I realized, was dead center in the room,
正好是你觉得你不应该放的地方
exactly where you'd think you shouldn't put it.
大家就似乎绕着它在走
The people, they seem to kind of move around it
好像鱼绕着一块石头在游
like fish swimming around a rock,
也没人觉得难过
and nobody seemed to be upset.

This kiosk was creating a great deal of comfort.

We discovered

that actually placing some things

in very key locations

would allow people to manipulate their movements

in a way that's actually more comfortable

than if they had nothing to navigate around.

When you're moving around another person,

you're looking at them in a way as a competitor.

and it's always going to win. It's not going to move.

The limitations are so pronounced

that the decision-making process is removed

so we feel a little bit free.

So we created these very large benches

and some small topographies in the ground plane

with a dilemma of how to move around this object.
