Proper form of improvisation is working it out in rehearsal,

recording it with the actors
然后演练 最后把戏定下来...
working it out and saying "This is the scene now." Taking...
但在某一时刻 我不用这个方式了 开始完全即兴发挥
And at some point I just stopped that and started just improvising.
有时候 我们即兴到 把自己带出了现有场景
We, at times, improvised ourselves out of the set
到另一个尚未搭建好的场景中
onto another set which wasn't built yet.
我们当时在拍一场戏...
We were shooting a scene...
鲍勃敲了敲窗户
Bob knocked on the window...
窗户碎了
It broke.

So Marty says, "That's what real life is. You're trying to get married,
敲了敲窗户 结果窗户碎了 这就是生活”
and you knock on a window and it breaks. That's life."

I said, "Why not? Why shouldn't he break it? Let's just-- What the hell?"

And so he said, "Don't you think it's too much?"

I said, "No, let's try it anyway."
于是道具师不得不出去 找可以打碎的窗户
So now the prop man has to go out and get breakaway windows.
每次窗户碎了
And every time the window breaks
都得有人清理窗户周围的碎玻璃
somebody's gotta clean up all the glass around the window,
换上新窗户 再在周围涂上油灰
and replace the window and put putty around it.
到了第二天 我们的拍摄完全乱套了
And the next day, we were so screwed up as far as shooting.
但没事 我们就是这样拍电影的
But yes, that's the way we made the movie.
我们那次有点失控了 但这种事难免会发生的
We went a little nuts on that one, but, you know... It happens.

I was bouncing back and forth.

And I couldn't stop.

I just wanted to shoot more.

So, we decided to do this over the Thanksgiving weekend.

And instead of him taking a break, he would come up and shoot the concert.

And everybody's whispering and putting this together.

Seven 35mm cameras in certain positions.

And cameramen basically memorized their positions,

and whenever they'd run out of film, they'd sort of run back to the script.

Which was about 200 pages.
马蒂写了一个完整的剧本
Marty wrote a full script.
里面有需要的每一首歌♥ 每一句词
Song by song, word by word, of what needs to happen.
有一栏 写明了谁唱哪一部分
In one column, you had who was singing what part.
有一栏写明了哪些乐器是重点
Another column you had what instruments were important.
有一栏和灯光有关 还有一栏和摄影机有关
And there's another column for lighting and another column for camera.
此时马蒂在做什么呢?
And what was Marty physically doing, when all of this was happening?

He was on a headset and he's telling everybody what's coming next

and what you need to catch.

And in the meantime, they're reloading film and batteries

and hoping the cameras don't die.

It was an experiment in terror.

And with that, Marty could move the camera in the way that he does, too.

Which is... very, very musical.

The rhythm, the move-- everything. It's like, wow.

It was one camera

for the first four bars of the music.

then it cut and this is the shot and there were drawings made for those shots.

I made The Last Waltz for no money. Nothing.
