You know the story about the monster in the Western Wood?

The Galloo? All the kids know that story.
我们七岁的时候长辈们就让我们背下来了
The elders made us memorize it when we were, like, seven.
我们的一些故事...
Well, some of our stories...
是为了让我们吸取教训
are meant to teach us lessons.
而有些故事是真的
And some of our stories are real.
你是说戈鲁真的存在
So you're telling me The Galloo is real?
给我讲一遍这个故事
Tell me the story.

I need to know you remember how all of this began.
数百万年前
Millions of years ago...
在人类诞生之前
Before the time of the first people,
一个恶灵从夜空最黑暗的地方被抛下
an evil spirit was cast down from the darkest part of the night sky,
困在一颗流星里
bound inside of a falling star.
但那颗流星撞上地球时裂开了
But when the star struck the Earth, it broke open,
恶灵跑了出来
and the spirit was set free.
它在树林里游荡经过了无数个寒冬和昼夜
It roamed the woods for many snows and countless moons...
直到我们第一代祖先的诞生
until the creation of our first ancestors.
承载怪物的流星是它的牢笼
The star that carried the monster had been its cage,
而流星上的石头依然蕴含着力量
and the stone it was made from still held power.
我们的智者用流星的一块碎片
Our wisest took a shard from that star
雕刻出一件武器来保护我们的族人
and carved a weapon to protect our people from the monster.
不受那个“戈鲁”的伤害
Which we named "The Galloo."
我们把匕♥首♥放在身边远离西林
We kept the dagger close and stayed away from the Western Wood.
随着时间的推移戈鲁的传说
As years went by, the legend of The Galloo was passed down
代代相传
from generation to generation.
我们与那只怪物相互制衡远离它的攻击范围
We lived in balance with the monster by staying outside of its reach
从不去它的领地里捕猎
and never hunting in its territory.
直到有一天...
Until one day...
定居者们来了
...the settlers arrived.
我们跟他们说了西林的危险
We warned them of the danger in the Western Wood,
可他们听不进去
but they chose to ignore us.
他们去那片林子里捕猎了果然如我们所料
They hunted the woods. And just as we had warned them,
他们成了猎物
they were hunted.
戈鲁以他们为食变得更加强大
The Galloo fed on them and grew stronger and more powerful.
这个怪物很快就可以在西林之外捕猎了
The monster would soon be able to hunt outside of the Western Wood.
村子里伟大的作战首领塞斯基
Sesqui, the village's great war chief,
被部落的母亲们叫去开会
was called to council by the clan mothers.
这个怪物变得太强大了
The creature had grown too powerful.
一把匕♥首♥已经无法保护所有村庄了
A single dagger could no longer protect all the villages.
为了拯救我们的族人他们做了一个决定
To save our people, the decision was made.
族人必须搬离那里
They would have to leave.
但塞斯基的女儿内卡妮不想离开我们的土地
But Sesqui's daughter, Necani, did not want to leave our land.
她相信还有另一条出路
She believed there was another path.
她带上匕♥首♥ 和朋友们一起
She took the dagger and journeyed past the great dead wood
穿过茂密的死亡森林
with her friends by her side.
最终到达了西林
Finally arriving at the Western Wood.
她们进入林子寻找戈鲁撞击出的坑洞
They entered the woods, seeking the cave where The Galloo crashed
想要收集更多的圣石
to gather more of the sacred stone.
当塞斯基发现她女儿和匕♥首♥都不见了
When Sesqui realized that her daughter and the dagger were missing,
便组织搜救队把两者找回来
she formed a search party to bring them both back.
然而没有了匕♥首♥ 他们无法抵御戈鲁的伤害
But without the dagger, they had nothing to protect themselves from The Galloo.
怪物在他们面前现身...
The monster showed itself to them.
变成他们最害怕的东西
In the shape of the things they feared the most.
它把作战小队的成员逐个分开
It separated the war party. One by one.
眨眼间塞斯基就发现自己孤身一人了
And before she knew it, Sesqui found herself alone.
塞斯基把唯一的希望寄托在她女儿身上
Sesqui's only hope was in her daughter's hands.
准备好见你的神吧
Prepare to meet thy God!
即使是伟大的战士塞斯基也敌不过戈鲁
Even Sesqui, the great warrior, was no match for The Galloo.
妈妈
Mom?
妈妈
Mom!
妈妈
Mom! Mom, no!
妈妈
Mom!
妈妈
No.
可惜为时已晚
But it was too late.
塞斯基的灵魂正在消逝...
Sesqui's spirit was already slipping away.
她去见先祖了
And she went to be with the ancestors.
不
No!
尽管内卡妮的眼泪流个不停她的族人仍处于危险之中
Though Necani's tears would not stop flowing, her people were still in danger.
她知道她肩负的责任
She knew what she had to do.
要像她母亲生前一样为族人而战
Fight for them, just like her mother always had.
于是内卡妮拿上匕♥首♥ 最后一次勇敢地踏入了西林
So, Necani took the dagger and braved the Western Wood one last time.
他们找到了那个坑洞
They found the cave.
打碎了送戈鲁来到这里的那颗远古流星
And broke off shards of the ancient star The Galloo had arrived in.
他们制定了一个计划
A plan was formed.
目的不是杀死它而是把它关起来
Not to kill it, but to cage it.
他们要用从前牢笼的碎片
They would use the shards of its old bindings,
也就是戈鲁唯一害怕的东西来保护我们族人的安全
the only thing The Galloo feared, to keep our people safe again.
孩子们围着西林走了一圈
The children circled the Western Wood,
那么多年来那里一直都是那只怪物的狩猎场
which had been the monster's hunting ground for so long.
他们将13块圣石深深地埋入了地下
And they buried 13 sacred shards. Deep into the earth.
他们在每块圣石上方点火标记位置
Over each stone, they lit a fire to mark its place,
形成了一条戈鲁无法跨越的界线
a line The Galloo could not cross.
我们的族人许下了神圣的承诺
Our people made a sacred promise to guard the pillars
要守护这些圣柱不透露它们的位置
and keep their places secret.
让困在里面的怪物永远无法挣脱
So that the monster that's trapped inside could never break free.
我们的族人能安稳度日戈鲁也会永远被困在...
Our people would be safe, and The Galloo would remain within these pillars...
这些圣柱之间
forever.
