The fire started in the middle of the night.

The flame jumped some fabric and burned through the place.

They couldn't get out through a window?
这些工人会在窗户上钉铁丝网
Sometimes the workers nail chicken wire to the windows
以防有人在他们下地干活时破窗而入
so that no one breaks in while they're in the fields.
