So, to me, the most important thing is to let the bed disappear.
家里没有一种固定的布局 因为所有的墙都可以移♥动♥
There's no fixed configuration because all the walls are moving.
从数学上讲 布局方式是无限的
Mathematically, it's pretty much limitless.
他的家可以说是一个心情指环
His home is this kind of mood ring in some senses,
因为它会随着张智强的心情 和想做的事改变
because it changes with Gary's mood and depending on what he feels like.
所有可以移♥动♥的墙
All the walls that can move,
其实都是挂在天花板上的
they are actually hung on the ceiling.
这要看墙的宽度
It depends on the width of the wall.
至少要用两条滑轨
The minimum is two tracks,
有些地方用到了三条
or in some places it's three
比如这面大墙 上面放着三千张光碟
for this big wall containing 3,000 compact discs.

There are also wheels,
但后来我发现这样会在地板上留下痕迹
but in the end I found out it leaves marks on the floor so
于是我把墙抬高了 完全悬挂在天花板上
I raised it so that now it's entirely hung on the ceiling.
我希望兼顾实用与美观
I wanted to make it functional, as well as beautiful.
我家另一个非常突出的特点
Another very prominent feature of my home,
是装♥修♥材料用到了很多镜子
in terms of materials, is the mirror.
镜子的目的不是为了照出倒影
My idea is not just for the reflection,
而是一种隐藏滑轨的办法
it's a way to conceal the tracks.
可以想象 如果是普通的白色天花板
You can imagine if it's a normal white ceiling,
那就会看起来很乱
it would be extremely busy.

The floor is actually made of
是2.1米长的
over seven-foot long

granite slabs, which are polished.

So that it gives another dimension to the space.
装♥修♥材料方面 主要多为金属
Material-wise, it's predominantly dominated by metals.
我选金属主要是为了经久耐用
I picked the metal more because of this durability,
但当阳光照进公♥寓♥时 金属会发出温暖的光芒
but when the sun hits my apartment, it gives a very warm glow.
金属会突然变得温暖、舒适
The metal could become suddenly so cozy and intimate.
很重要的一点是 如果你的小家里家具太多
One important consideration, if your compact home has too much furniture,
那一定会看起来很乱
it will definitely look messy.
我的办法就是尽量使用一种颜色
So my way of organizing things is I try to make it monotone
这样就看不出来哪里是家具
so that you almost don't differentiate which part is the furniture
哪里是房♥子的建筑结构
and which parts are elements of construction.
墙壁、地板、天花板 看起来全都一个样
The walls, floor, and ceilings-- they all look alike.

I try to explore the idea of multipurpose furniture as well.

A small table can be a chair.
几把椅子可以拼成长椅
Several chairs can be a bench.
最后 一定要超越传统的定义
Ultimately, you have to look beyond traditional definitions.

During the parties, we need some space for a private moment, like making a call.

So, at that time, my shower will become the telephone booth.

It's essentially an elevator and service stair core

with little rooms attached to the side.

In New York, the average size of a studio flat is probably 500 square feet,

The main idea is we do a triangulation.

We are able to create a more than twelve-foot-long table and window.

The footprint is not too big, but you are able to look out all the time
这样便不会有拥挤、狭窄的感觉
so you feel not jammed and cramped.

It's quite different from my home.
