[Bertie] Like so many of the dramatic wildlife spectacles here,

One group of sea lions has adapted their hunting technique

And there's something about the wildlife here in Galapagos

that is just ridiculous. It is all so bold and so friendly.

And the longer we sit here looking for these sea lions,

And the pelicans, who have just been hanging out

on the cliff all day, they're getting in on the action too.

Okay, coming into the bay shortly.

Yeah, that's a fail, stand down.

Wow. Nearly. They got the fish,

So it shows that even though they're really intelligent,

really amazing working as a team, they don't always win.

[Bertie] But this close call has given me an idea.

I noticed something that could help us get ahead of the action next time.

Galapagos brown pelicans are super smart.

It seems like they've learnt that when the wolf pack is on the move,

there's a free lunch up for grabs.
[music fades]

Birds are our friends. They are so good at spotting marine mammals.

So if I ever see them beelining in one direction,

for the sea lions.

[Bertie] Ten days pass as we stake out the cove,
but we don't see a single hunt.
[music fades]

Whenever I'm trying to film a rare bit of animal behavior,

I usually get to this point in the shoot

which is the "will it, won't it happen" stage,

and doubt starts to creep in.

And I begin to come up with all kinds of ridiculous theories

as to whether this is actually gonna happen

and, you know, is it the moon?

Is it the waves? Is it the wind? Is it the weather?

Is it the fact that that lava lizard just looked at me funny?
[soft whimsical music playing]

I keep thinking they're challenging me to a press-up competition.

I'm ready, lizard, let's do this.
[music fades]
[tranquil music playing]

[Sam] Hey, Bertie. Do you copy?
Yeah, go ahead.

Whoa, there's a shark. There's a shark in amongst the sea lions.

It's funny, the tables are turned.

The sea lions are now the providers, not the prey for the sharks.

Sea lions are just blowing bubbles to scare the fish towards the beach.
