The two brothers stayed together.
过了一会儿提奥对哥哥的恢复还持乐观态度
For a while, Theo was optimistic about Vincent's chances of recovery.
但是一天后梵高高烧不退随后失去了知觉
But then, a day later, the fever mounted and Vincent slipped from consciousness.
1♥8♥9♥0年7月29日梵高在弟弟提奥的怀里死去了
Theo held him as he died on the 29th of July, 1♥8♥9♥0.
他死去的那一刻正是他人生意义被证明了的时刻
Gone precisely at the moment when his entire life was being vindicated.
同样提奥也相信文森特时代终于来临了
Theo believed that as well, that Vincent's time had finally arrived,
但是却太晚了
but it was too late.
不仅仅是对梵高而言提奥也是如此
Not just for Vincent, but for Theo,
他的健康状况开始恶化不到一年也去世了
his own health deteriorated and within a year he was dead, too.
终于就像生前一样
There they are, side-by-side in death,
兄弟二人又能呆在一起了
as they had very much been wherever they were in life.
在最后一封写给提奥的信中写道
In his last letter to Theo, Vincent wrote
他自己并不想要孩子他的作品就是他的后代
of how, not managing to have children, his paintings were his progeny.
但是他的确有一个孩子表现主义
But he did have a child, of course, Expressionism.
而且还有许许多多的继承人
And many, many heirs,
考考斯卡德库宁霍华德.霍奇金杰克森.波拉克
Kokoschka, de Kooning, Howard Hodgkin,Jackson Pollock.
但是关于梵高的遗产还有些别的东西
But there's something about van Gogh's legacy
它比那些现代艺术中冠以这个那个主义更重要
which is much more important than his fathering this or that ism of modern art.
文森特持有一个充满热情的信念
Vincent's passionate belief was that people wouldn't just see his pictures,
人们不会仅仅是去观看他的作品而是去感受作品中那汹涌澎湃的生命力
but feel the rush of life in them.
通过画笔的力量和眩目的色彩
That by the force of his brush and the dazzlement of his colour,
人们将会通过比那些曾经可能存在的传达方式都更为文雅的方式
they'd experience those fields,those faces, those flowers,
去体验那些土地那些面孔那些花朵
in ways nothing more polite or literal could ever possibly convey.
他的作品将会收回那些曾经属于宗教的东西
His art would reclaim what had once belonged to religion,
它们会在富有天赋才能的生命渐逝的过程中给我们人类以安慰
consolation for our mortality through the relish of the gift of life.
可这并不是他所追求的
It wasn't the art crowd he was after.
他想的是
What he wanted was to open the eyes
令观众们打开眼界，敞开胸怀
and the hearts of everyone who saw his paintings.
那么他得偿所愿了
Well, he got what he wanted.
在大部分人眼里，我是怎样的一个人?
What am I, in the eyes of most people?
一个无足轻重的人？一个行为古怪的人？
A nonentity? An eccentric?
一个令人生厌的人？
An unpleasant person?
一个现在没有社会地位而且将来永远也不会有的人一句话万千俗人中最俗的那一个
Somebody who has no position in society and never will. In short, the lowest of the low.
那么好吧即使这些绝对都是真的
Alright then, well, even if that were all absolutely true,
若有机会的话
then one day,
我将通过我的作品向大家展示
I should like to show by my work
一个像我这样无足轻重的人
what such a nonentity, such a nobody
他的心中究竟有些什么东西
has in his heart.
