靠近看会发现很多小裂痕
When you come closer, you'll see a lot of small cracks,

The Roman builders made holes in each building block.

knitting the blocks together.

This created an extremely stable and tightly packed structure

that was able to withstand anything from hurricanes to earthquakes.
