他鼓吹在新的“弥赛亚”降临之前，民众应及时忏悔他们的罪。
He preaches to the people to repent before the coming of the Messiah.
我是用水给你们施洗，叫你们悔改，
I baptize you with water.
但那在我以后来的，能力比我更大，
But one mightier than I shall come after me.
他要用圣灵与火给你们施洗。
And he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
看来又是一个“弥赛亚”要来了。
One more messiah on the way.
犹太人永远都会这样不知疲倦的捏造出他们的救星吗？
Will these Jews never tire of inventing deliverers?
我听过那个名字，施洗约翰。
I have heard that name, John the Baptist.
他所到之处，都到处宣扬邪魔歪道，
I hear he speaks evil things of me wherever he goes.
应该把他的心挖出来。
His heart should be ripped from his body.
希罗底，你的女儿越长大越像她母亲了。
Your daughter, Herodias, grows more like her mother day by day.

《圣经》中一名重要的先知，耶稣指出施洗约翰就是以利亚，是为祂预备道路的使者

我就是那在旷野有人喊着说：
I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness.
“修直主的道路”的声音。
The Messiah is one who will come after me.

为了能接受您的施洗。
For you to baptize him.
他没有罪，我怎能给他施洗？
He is without sin. How could I baptize him?
我在旷野中传道，
I preach in the wilderness...
但是福音必须荣入耶路撒冷。
but the Word must be brought to Jerusalem.
如今，我知道我没那样的能力，
Yet I know I am not the one to deliver it.
只有他才可以。
Only he can.
我想，等时候到了，
When his time comes...
他自会到那里。
he will be there.

You say that with sadness.

And joy!
耶稣受洗之后，
And Jesus, baptized...
从约旦返回，进入了旷野。
returned from Jordan,and went into the wilderness.
施洗结束后，圣灵降临在他身上，
And with the baptism,the Holy Spirit came upon him...
又有声音说：
and a voice said to Jesus:
“你是我的爱子，我喜悦你！”
"Thou art my beloved Son,in thee I am well pleased. "
耶稣知道，在旷野之中，
And Jesus knew the wilderness...
白日骄阳似火，
its day of heat...
夜晚寒风凛冽，
its night of cold and solitude.
他独自在那，与神交流，
And stayed himself there to commune with God...
为即将到来的日子而修♥炼♥，
and strengthen himself for the times to come.
也没有吃什么，忍♥饥挨饿，
And ate nothing and hungered.
把一切置之度外，唯有把灵魂
And brought his soul forth in the light...
与只有他得看见和知道的光芒融合在一起，
to be seen of himself and known.
四十天来受魔鬼的试探。
And was 40 days tempted of the devil.
停下！我在这！
Behold! I am here!
我命令你，过来！
Come! I command you!
过来！解释我的疑惑！
Come! Be tried and found wanting!
你若是神的儿子，可以吩咐这些石头变成食物。
If you are the Son of God, command these stones that they be turned to bread.
人活着，不是单靠食物，
Man does not live by bread alone...
乃是靠神口里所出的一切话。
but by every word of God.
停下！
Behold!
霎时间，我将世上的万国指给你看，
I show you all the kingdoms of the world, in a moment of time.
这一切权♥柄♥，荣华我都要给你，
All this will I give you, and the glory of them.
如果你俯伏拜我，这一切都要归你。
If you will worship me, all shall be yours.
吼！上来这高山！
Lo! Come to this high place.
你若是神的儿子，可以从这跳下去，
If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here.
不需要祂的使者保护你，用手托着你，你可以做到吗？
For will not His angels save you from falling and prevent your death?
上来这高山！
Come to the high place.
退去吧！
Be gone!
我敬畏主我的神，
I worship the Lord my God...
单要侍奉祂。
and only to Him do I do service.
来吧！
Come!
尽管来吧！只要你想，
Come, if you will...
我绝不会让主我的神阻拦你。
but I shall not call upon the Lord my God to stop you.
你不可试探我对主我的神的敬畏。
You shall not force me to put the Lord my God to the proof.
魔鬼用完了各样的试探，就暂时离开耶稣。
And when the devil had ended all his temptations, he departed away.
而后耶稣就走出了旷野，为世人所见。
And Jesus came out of the wilderness,and was seen by men.
他是你们新的夫子，他是神的羔羊。
