It was faked to make it look as though it was posted,

before the afternoon delivery.

My guess is Agnes was looking through the window here

waiting for her boyfriend to come and apologise...
却看到了凶手来送信
And saw the culprit deliver the letter.

Exactly.
但凶手怎么知道她在家呢
But how would the letter writer know that she was home?
或许是巧合吧伯顿先生
Well, it's a kind of miracle, Mr Burton,
事情究竟是如何发生的
how things get around this place.

I don't know what's come over me.

I think it's the shock.

Pretty grim, isn't it? - That poor girl.
