我们宇宙中的每一颗行星 都会按照自己的速度旋转
Every planet in our universe spins
at its own speed.
数十亿个世界
Billions of worlds,
每一个世界都有其自己的时钟
each with their own clock,
时间按照不同的节奏流逝
ticking away to different rhythms.
但一切都在按照 普遍的宇宙时间轴向前发展
But all moving forward
on a universal cosmic timeline.

回到地球上
Back on Earth,
太阳现在几乎要直接照到头顶上了
with the sun now almost directly overhead,
黑猩猩们也确切地知道现在是几点了
the chimps know exactly what time it is.
午餐的时间到了
It's lunchtime.
它们穿越萨凡纳草原的时间 被安排得恰到完美
And their crossing of the savanna
has been timed to perfection.
如此一来 它们就中了头彩
They've hit the jackpot.
非洲葡萄树结出的这些甜莓
These sweet berries
of the African grape tree
仅可供摘取几个星期
are only around for a few weeks.

A rare seasonal gift from the forest.

Where the middle of the day
is a very productive time.

Animals of all sizes
are tending to their daily tasks.

And each experiences time differently.

dictating the lives of every chimpanzee.

One in particular.

At just 15 weeks,

this baby's entire body
could fit in its mother's hand.

For it to fully form,

of perfectly timed events must occur.

It's time to find a safe place
to spend the night.

Their bedding needs to be soft but strong.

It doesn't hurt if it tastes good either.
森林中每一天的节奏
The rhythm of every day in the forest
都是由太阳在天空中的位置所决定的
is determined by the sun's position
in the sky.
但黑猩猩与生俱来的时间感
But the chimp's innate sense of time
却来自于它们内在的某种东西
comes from something inside them.
在它们的大脑深处是一座生物钟
Deep in their brains
is a biological clock.
多个神经元束会充当钟摆
Bundles of neurons act as a pendulum…
由可以开启和关闭的基因
…controlled by genes
that switch on and off…
以及一个每24小时 就重复一次的周期所控制
and a cycle that repeats every 24 hours.

These clock genes create
a circadian rhythm in the body

that waxes and wanes in sync
with our planet's rotation.

Controlling hormones…

and energy levels.
此时 黑猩猩的生物钟正在发出信息
And right now, the chimps' body clocks
are sending the message,
“是时候入睡了”
"It's time to get sleepy."
不过 不是谁都能做到这点的
Not everyone can though.
塞莱斯特的宝宝的大脑仍在形成中
Celeste's baby's brain is still forming.
由于没有属于它自己的内部生物钟
With no internal clock of its own,
它还要依靠母亲的荷尔蒙 来让自己保持时间上的同步
it relies on its mother's hormones
to keep it synchronized.
但宝宝并不是始终都知道这点的
But baby doesn't always get the memo.
塞莱斯特很幸运
Lucky for Celeste,
由于长大了这么多
with so much growing to do,
她的宝宝终于悄然入睡了
her baby does eventually drift off.
当黑猩猩在高高的树梢上入睡时
While the chimps go to sleep
high in the treetops…
其它的森林栖息者却刚刚醒来
other forest dwellers are just waking up.
生物钟在整个森林中的
Body clocks tick away
植物和动物的细胞内滴答作响
in the cells of plants and animals
throughout the forest.
时钟基因是在25亿年前的
Clock genes evolved
two and a half billion years ago
第一批的活细胞中进化而来的
in the first living cells.
那些能够预期一天中的光明和黑暗的 时钟基因具有一个优势
Those that could anticipate the light
and dark of a day had an advantage.
随着生命的进化
And as life evolved,
它做到了与地球的运动同步
it synchronized to Earth's motion.
所以到了今天
So that today,
这些生物钟几乎存在于 地球上每一种生物的体内
these clocks exist
in almost every creature on Earth.
虽然有些生物比较喜欢白天 而其它的比较喜欢夜晚
Although some creatures prefer day
and others night…
但由于有了随着我们地球的旋转
all life is dancing to the same beat.
而滴答计时的细胞时钟
Thanks to cellular clocks
所有的生命都会按照同一个节拍起舞
that tick in time
with the spin of our Earth.

随着昨天成为记忆
As yesterday becomes a memory…
森林中又开始了新的一天
…another new day begins in the forest.
进入了一个新的周期
A fresh cycle,
然而 没有生物钟能真正地被重置
and yet, no clock can ever truly be reset.
森林的四周都有 一些微妙的线索可以揭示原因
And there are subtle clues
all around the forest that reveal why.
今天不会有什么是和昨天完全一样的
Nothing is the same today
as it was yesterday.
尤其是阿波罗
Least of all Apollo,
他看起来似乎情绪不佳
who seems to have woken up
on the wrong side of the bed.
当他心情不好时
When he's in a bad mood…
群里的其它成员只需保持低调即可
the rest of the group
just need to keep their heads down.

He soon finds a target
for his rage, though.

Some of the younger chimps
have found honey for breakfast.
可它们却忘了邀请阿波罗来一起共餐
And they forgot
to invite Apollo to join them.

You soon learn, never get
on the wrong side of the dominant male.
他被狠狠地咬了一口
He's got a nasty bite.
谢天谢地 这不是太严重
Thankfully, it's not too serious.
只要稍加小心 这个伤口应该会愈合
With a bit of care,
this wound should heal.
但是伤口会留下伤痕
But wounds leave behind scars,
会刻在黑猩猩的身体里
etched into the chimps' bodies.
这类无法抹掉的过往痕迹 揭示出一个关于时间的普遍真理
Indelible marks of the past that reveal
the one universal truth about time.
即时间是有方向的
It has a direction.

You can never go back in time…
