那听起来不像克里福德会做的事
That doesn't sound like Clifford.
今天有些奇怪的花
Some strange flowers there today.
不是我带的
Not mine.
我想还挺好的
Nice, I suppose.
我给自己买♥♥了一件橙色的夹克
I've got myself an orange jacket.
人们管那叫荧光服
'Hi-viz', they call them.
要是幸运的话大家会更注意到我
With luck, folks will notice me a bit more,
我最不希望成为背景
the last thing I want to do is blend in.
今天那个年轻警♥察♥来了
The young policeman stopped today.
停在停车场然后走了过来
Parked in the lay-by and walked across.
问我是否有空
Said, did I have a moment?
我说 "我确实接下去还有别的事情
I said, "Well, I've got my schedule to keep up,
别站在那了"
only don't stand there."
他说"哪里" 我说"你站在轮胎印上了
He said, "Where?" I said, "You're right on the tyre tracks.
"我尽力保持它们完整出于尊重"
"I try to keep them crisp if I can. Out of respect."
他站在草地上问 "一切都还好吗"
He stood on the grass and said, "Is this all right?"
我说 "我希望你注意到我穿了安全夹克"
I said, "I hope you've noticed I've got a safety jacket on."
他说"是的不过" 我问"不过什么"
He said, "Yes, only..." I said, "Only what?"
他说 "我能理解你为什么这么做
He said, "Well, I can understand where you're coming from,
"我也理解你需要哀悼不过
"And I can appreciate your need to grieve, only...
"你现在开始下跪了对吧"
"You've started kneeling now, haven't you?"
我说 "我确实下跪那是为了表态"
I said, "Yes, I do kneel. It makes more of a statement."
他说 "对但你得知道你跪下
He said, "Yes, only you must see that, on your knees
"还穿着这个夹克就成了一个危害
"and in that jacket, you're a real hazard.
"司机会注意到你
"Drivers notice you.
"他们会看" 我说"他们就该看"
"They look." I said, "They're meant to."
他说 "对不过你是个事故隐患"
He said, "Yes, only you're an accident waiting to happen."
我说 "所以你不想让我穿这件夹克
I said, "So do you not want me to wear the jacket,
"还是你不想让我跪下"
"or do you not want me to kneel?"
他说 "都不想如果你能接受的话
He said, "Neither if it's all the same to you.
"你能下定决心继续生活了吗大家都这样"
"Can't you just make up your mind to move on? People do."
我说 "继续生活但验尸结果都还没出来"
I said, "'Move on'? The inquest hasn't even come out yet."
他说 "这件事我想跟你谈谈"
He said, "That's something I want to talk to you about."
我们走过去坐在了凳子上
We went and sat on the seat.
他说 "这很不错
He said, "This is nice.
"有羊" 我说"没错
"Sheep." I said, "Yes.
"如果你不在这它们会过来
"They'd come over if you weren't here.
"它们现在认识我了" 他脱下了帽子
"They know me now." He took his hat off.
"你丈夫载过人吗
"Did your hubby ever have a passenger?
在摩托车后座上"
Somebody on the pillion?"
我说 "他根本不认识别人
I said, "He didn't know anybody.
"就算有人
"If anybody was ever going
要坐在后座那也是我怎么了"
to go on the pillion it would be me. Why?"
他说 "他的挂篮里
He said, "Well, he was
放着另一顶头盔"
carrying a spare crash helmet in his pannier."
我说 "我不知道他会带什么东西
I said, "I don't know what he carried.
"他是去看鸟不可能还有别人"
"He was bird-watching. There can't have been anybody else."
他说 "我不是说有别人
He said, "I'm not saying there was.
"只是..."
"Only..."
他一直看着羊
He was looking at the sheep all this time.
"有时也并不需要其他人
"..You don't always need anybody else.
"尸检显示他刚..." 我说"刚什么"
"The autopsy showed he'd just..." I said, "Just what?"
他说
He said...
"高♥潮♥过"
.."Climaxed."
我从没听过这样的说法
I'd never heard it called that.
我问 "克里福德吗不可能"
I said, "Clifford? No."
他说 "是速度人们会因为速度而高♥潮♥"
He said, "It's the speed. They get a kick out of it."
我问"看鸟的人吗" 他说"摩托车手"
I said, "Bird-watchers?" He said, "Bikers.
"他先是个摩托车手其次才是看鸟的人"
"He was a biker first and a bird-watcher second."
我说 "你怎么知道"
I said, "How do you know?"
他说 "别担心这个消息不会报道
He said, "Don't worry. It won't come out.
"验尸官很谨慎"
"The coroner is very discreet."
他又坐了一两分钟
He sat for a minute or two.
我说 "你的裤子上有泥巴"
I said, "You've got some of the mud on your trousers."
我说 "我还是要下跪但我不会穿夹克了"
I said, "I'm still going to kneel, only I won't wear the jacket."
他说 "这就对了"
He said, "That's the stuff!"
他走的时候按了下喇叭
And just pipped his horn as he went off.
之后鸢飞了过来在天空盘旋
The kite came later on, circling round.
今天又有更多的花
More flowers today.
银莲花
Anemones.
我现在和警♥察♥妥协了
What I do now is I meet the police halfway.
要不♥穿♥着荧光服并站着
I either wear the jacket and stand,
或不♥穿♥荧光服并跪着
or don't wear the jacket and kneel.
我拿来了花♥园♥跪垫这样能跪得舒服些
I bring my garden kneelers now and they make it easier.
我昨天刚清理过
I'd just done a stint yesterday
并维护了轮胎印
and was freshening up the tyre treads
这时有人骑着摩托车过来了
when somebody roars up on a bike.
他没把车停在停车场直接放在了路边
Doesn't park in the lay-by but lugs his bike up onto the verge.
再往前一尺他就到出事的地方了
Another foot and he'd have been right on the place.
他的头盔上有个十字架
A cross on the front of his helmet
但当他摘下头盔后我才发现他是个牧师
but it's only when he takes it off I realise he's a vicar.
我们握了手
Shakes hands.
他说自己先是牧师其次再是摩托车手
Says he's a vicar first and a biker second.
只是他安静不下来
Only he can't keep still,
总在草坪和树之间走来走去
wanders about all over the grass by the tree.
你以为既然他是个牧师会更敏感
You'd think, with him being a vicar, he'd be more sensitive.
最终我让他坐在了椅子上
Eventually, I make him sit on the seat,
他问我是否能祈祷
where he asks if he can say a prayer.
我说 "现在有点太迟了吧"
I say, "Well, it's a bit late for that."
他说 "不是为他是为你"
He says, "Not for him, for you."
他说 "我祝福摩托车我是车手的牧师
He said, "I bless bikes. I'm the rev who revs.
"我大概也祝福过你丈夫的摩托车"
"I probably blessed your husband's bike."
我想着"这也没起到什么用" 但我没有说
I thought, "Well, it didn't do him much good," But I didn't say.
我问 "是警♥察♥派你来的吗"
I said, "Did the police send you?"
他说 "也不是"
He said, "Not specifically."
我说 "警♥察♥想搞清楚
I said, "They were trying to make out
他的后座当时是否有人"
there'd been somebody on the pillion."
他说 "洛娜..."
He said, "Lorna..."
他们肯定都跟他说了
They must have told him that and all.
"洛娜后座有人
"Lorna, There was someone on the pillion.
"耶稣在后座
"Jesus was on the pillion.
"他一直在
"He always is.
"就算我们没有骑摩托时"
"Even if we're not riding a bike."
他问我怎么看待这个结局我说"我没想过
He asks me how I see it ending. I say, "I don't.
"我是目击者"
"I'm bearing witness."
他问 "目击什么"
He said, "What to?"
我回答 "死亡"
I said, "Death."
他说 "这个我没法反驳
He said, "Well, I can't quarrel with that, obviously,
"但你是否能做些更有意义的事"
"But isn't there something more constructive you can do?"
我说 "比如什么"
I said, "Like what?"
"比如组建一个社团
"Form a society, say.
"与其他这样丧失亲友的人聚在一起
"Get together with others bereaved in the same way.
"继续生活
"Move on.
"毕竟这就是公墓的意义
"After all that's what cemeteries are for,
"而不是在路边"
"Not places by the roadside."
他站了起来
He got up.
"他撞到这棵树了吗"
"Did he hit this tree?"
我说 "我想是的
I said, "I imagine so.
"羊肯定看到了"
"The sheep will have seen it."
他说 "你想让我祝福这棵树吗"
He said, "Do you want me to bless the tree?"
我说 "倒也不必你可以祝福这些羊"
I said, "Not particularly. You could bless the sheep."
他不觉得这是个好主意
He didn't think it was a good idea,
又闲逛了一阵后他骑上摩托呼啸而去
and after a bit more wandering around he revs up and revs off.
我的态度不友好我知道
I wasn't very nice, I know,
但只因为他是个牧师
only he's a vicar.
他应该能看出来这不是一个犯罪现场
He should be able to see that it's not a crime scene.
而是个神龛
It's a shrine.
我跪下了一会儿后坐在了凳子上
I knelt down for a bit then sat on the seat.
天气预报说今天有雨
They forecast rain
所以我在轮胎印上面铺了泡泡纸
so I put some bubble wrap down to cover the tracks.
