neither seemed to suit Henry.

I tell him it's the hospice.

The farm goes from strength to strength.

She's put her onions in for shows

and gone commercial with the tomatoes.
她一有空就会去那里当然还是在监狱里
She's there every free moment. Well, I say free.
只不过我和她道别的时候感觉好像是我
Except that when I say goodbye at the gate it feels it's me
要回到监狱里去
that's going back to prison.
他们每个月会让她出来半天
Once a month they let her out for a half day
然后我们会一起出去逛半小时做各种事
and we go off for the afternoon and do all sorts.
当然会去逛花♥园♥了
Open gardens, obviously,
我们还去参加过拍卖♥♥会旧货市场
auctions we've been to, car-boot sales.
还有老教堂我以前从来不会去的
And old churches, which I've never cared much for,
但芙兰知道很多
only Fran knows a lot about them.
有一个教堂建在
One church in the middle of a field
以前一个战场边上
near where there'd been a battle.
我们坐在长椅上
And we sit there in a pew
她给我解释各种建筑结构
while she explains all the architectural features.
有时候我觉得我这辈子都没有这么开心过
And sometimes I think I've never been so happy in all my life.
她上一次牵起了我的手
She took my arm this last time,
在我们顺着喷泉修道院的阶梯走下来时
just as we were coming down some steps at Fountains Abbey
然后等我们走到底时
and then, when we got to the bottom...
她没有放手
..She didn't let go.

It was just like it was when I was a girl

when a boy did it.

Such a bold step.

And so...meant.

She wasn't feeling all that clever today,

so we just went and sat in the grounds,

Going into York next week for a check-up.

I thought I could go along and hang about the hospital

just on the off-chance I might see her.

But she'll be with a warder, apparently, so I won't.

我从来没有从头自己开垦出一片花♥园♥
I've never had to start a garden from scratch before.
原先什么都没有
There are no features at all.

Flat, square, stony.

It's like one of the "Before" ictures

in the gardening magazines.

Or an exercise yard.
天气这么热铺草坪是不可能的
A lawn's pretty much out of the question in this heat.
供水也很不切实际
And the water supply's very quixotic.
虽然亨利说高尔夫球场的草坪都完好无损
Though Henry says the greens at the golf club are immaculate.
他上周去见了肖恩·康纳利
And he saw Sean Connery last week.
于是我就坐下来画计划图
So I sit and look at it and draw plans.

"Look on it as a challenge," Henry says.

She died, did Fran.

A lot of toing and froing before they eventually tracked it down.

No surprise to either of us.

Doctors.
你第一反应就能想到的东西
It's the first thing that occurs to you

and the last thing that occurs to them.

She was in a hospice at the finish,

so I knew the drill.

Kiss it.

And she'd kiss mine.

We'd talked about a little garden centre.

"Best thing that could have happened," Henry said.
我现在应该收拾好我的东西了
Which is when I should have packed my bags.
但我觉得只是来呆呆地坐在温室里
Instead of which I just went and sat in the greenhouse for a bit.

Typical.
他有时候会戴着一顶年轻男孩戴的
He'll sometimes wear one of these caps with the big peaks
大头帽子
that boys wear.
我想是为了遮太阳
Reckons it's for the sun.
有一天发现他戴反了
Caught him the other day wearing it back to front.
我想这就是所谓的新生活
I suppose it's known as a new lease of life.
这里应该有很多罪犯的
There are supposed to be lots of criminals round here.
抢银行的这种不能回归社会的人
Bank robbers and suchlike who can't go back,
整天打高尔夫球
play golf all day.
当然了这只是剧里会发生的事
Of course, it's just what would happen in a play.
芙兰开枪打死了他所以她要付出代价
Fran shot him so she had to pay.
但是这地方里都是没有付出代价的人
Only this place is crawling with people who haven't paid.
除非你觉得只要来这里就算是付出代价了
Unless you count just being here as paying.
园艺书上提过一些喜欢阴影的
The gardening books talk about the plants that are supposed
植物
to like shade.
他们说它们就喜欢阴影
They say they prefer it.
我不相信我不信有任何东西会喜欢阴影
I don't believe it. I don't believe anything likes shade.
他们在阴影里长得很好没错
They do very well, perfectly well, in the shade, it's true.
但是给他们...哪怕...
But give them...even...
给他们一点点阳光
Give them a bit of sun...
他们就会突然变回自己的模样
..And they suddenly come into their own.
我晚上会坐在这里
I sit here at night,
听着青蛙和蟋蟀的声音
listening to the frogs and the crickets...
还有亨利
..And Henry...
呼吸里带着哨声
..Whistling under his breath.
