but filming the timid female and courtship behaviour

was a different matter.

And this was what the Life team set out to film.

With over 20 years in the business,

not only is he an accomplished photographer

but he has developed a deep understanding of

Although each one posed it's own unique challenges,

Barrie he did seem to spend an inordinate amount of time

cooped up in his trusty old hide.

Think I may have misjudged the hide position,

cos the sea's coming in the bottom of the hide.

Well, that was 11 hours in my little box.

It took a team of 40 people
艰苦跋涉了三天才抵达拍摄营地
3 days of tough uphill trekking to get to the filming camp.

I could complain about leeches, biting insects,
路有多难走
the tough going
但是真的没有必要 因为这太棒了
but, I really don't want to, this is great.
好像看不到其他人 希望我没走错路
Seem to have lost everyone else, I hope I'm going the right way.

Oh, made it.

Completely shattered.
辛苦的还在后头
The hard work had only just begun.
明天，在向导的协助下
Tomorrow with the help of their guides,
拍摄小组要去找 最漂亮的褐色园丁鸟来拍摄
the crew would go looking for the best bowers to film
但是后来当地酋长讲了一则 警世意味浓厚的故事
but not before a cautionary tale from the local chief.
当他父亲第一次 指出褐色园了鸟给他看
So when he first was shown the bower by his father
周围都是花
he, there were flowers there,
当时十二岁的他 想伸手抓那些鸟
and, as a 12-year-old child he wanted to grab them
但是他父亲立刻阻止他
but his father immediately stopped him
说他什么也不能摸
and said, that he could not touch anything
不能拿走园丁鸟的东西
or take anything away from the bower
否则天上会开始降下大雨
because otherwise it would start raining very heavily.
四点五十，巴利
- Oh! - It's ten to five, Barrie.
酋长的警告还言犹在耳
With the chief's warning fresh in their minds,
巴利和拍摄小组起个一大早 往藏身地点走去
Barrie and the team make an early start and head for the hide.
我们抵达藏身篷的时候 太阳刚刚露脸
Well, we've reached the hide just at sunrise,
我们要尽快把一切准备就绪
so we're just gonna get set up as quickly as we can.
有经验丰富的向导协助 寻找褐色园丁鸟并非难事
With knowledgeable guides, finding the bowers wasn't the problem.
谁能对那么鲜明的身影 视而不见呢
And who could miss such obvious structures?
现在巴利得伺机而动
It was now a waiting game for Barrie,
他躲在层层伪装的藏身篷里面
heavily concealed in his camouflaged hide.
现在是六点半
OK, it's 6.30,
所以现在只等鸟儿出现
so I'm just waiting now for the bird to come, hoping that
希望它不要察觉到有人躲在这里
he doesn't suspect that anything is here
这样才能拍摄到自然的动作
and that we can get some natural behaviour.
我刚刚听到褐色园丁鸟的叫声 就在藏身篷右侧
I've just heard the bowerbird call just to the right of the hide.
我听到鸟儿在外面
I can hear the bird outside,
它在啄藏身篷上的树枝
it's plucking on the fabric of the hide.

I've just noticed that the bird has pulled a Snickers wrapper

out of the bottom of the hide and has added it to its display.

It was a very strange decoration

which I had to remove at the end of the day.

Had Barrie tempted fate by removing the wrapper and ignoring the chief's warning?

Or was this just rainforest living up to its name?

When it pours like this, filming becomes virtually impossible.
天气很快放晴了
Soon the weather improved
巴利再度回到藏身篷
and Barrie returned once more to the hide.
这一次 他的藏身小箱关得紧紧的
This time his lunch box was firmly sealed.
那只鸟对这些 娇小的瓢虫非常感兴趣
The bird is very keen on these little tiny metallic ladybirds
褐色园丁鸟把它们放在棚架上
and they're a bit put out being put there in this bower,
所以它们开始往外爬
so, they start crawling off,
它们缓慢地在青苔上爬行
they're very slowly making their way over the moss
正当它们快接近展示台边缘时
and they just about get to the edge of display

and then the bowerbird notices

and goes and collects them and puts them back again,
