Rajasthan, India.

This is 24-year-old Bhumi Shah.

For five years, she has been on the path to becoming a Jain nun.

And to prove her devotion,

she must endure one of the most excruciating ritual ordeals.

is an essential step towards freeing her soul.

But for her family, the decision has been hard to accept.

Bhumi's initiation begins with an elaborate parade.

the wealth and material possessions she must leave behind

After this initiation,

With the arrival of her guru,

Bhumi's life-changing ritual will take place
