(WHISPERS) Common dolphin.

Oh! I saw one jump really high!
(GROANS)
我从来没有因为看到海豚这么失望过
I’ve never been so disappointed to see a dolphin.
所以它们才叫真柏提
JOHNNY:
BERTIE: True that.
没错 我们大老远到这里 是要拍超级长吻飞旋海豚群
But we came all this way to film a spinner dolphin super pod.
当时间越来越紧迫 我们真的开始怀疑
And with time slipping by,serious doubts are creeping in.
真的有点沮丧
This is all getting a bit frustrating.
海上的某个地方有几千只海豚
Somewhere out here,are thousands and thousands of dolphins,
但我们却找不到 我们越认真找
but we just can’t find them.And the more we look around,
试着在大海捞针
trying to find a needle in a haystack,
我就越觉得也许我们找不到
the more I begin to feel like maybe we might not find
那个传闻聚集在这里游泳的
the super pod of spinner dolphins
超级长吻飞旋海豚群
that’s rumored to swim around and gather in this spot.
如果海洋教会我一件事
BERTIE: Although, if the ocean has taught me one thing,
就是运气随时会改变
it’s that your luck can turn at any time.
还有一天
Here we go, last day.And we’re all on lookout duty.
好了 最后一天 我们全力寻找

Maybe this turtle taxi is a good omen too.

They’re diving ten o’clock,Bertie, moving towards nine.

BERTIE: We’ve got diving birds.

This is our last chance to find spinner dolphins.
好 这里有很多海上活动
Okay. So, we’ve got a bunch of surface activity up here.
好多鸟冲下来
There’s birds just piling into the water.
有鲣鸟 水薙 各种不同的鸟
There's Boobies, Shearwaters,all different kinds of birds
俯冲入水 老天 看啊
pumping into the…Geez! Look at that!
海面上的活动非常频繁
The amount of activity that’s going on at the surface is wild.
好 可以从他肩膀拍过去
So, okay. You can film that over his shoulder,
看起来好酷
that looks really cool.
最后几天叫人很沮丧
The last few days have been frustrating,
这里很美 不要误会我
you know, it’s a beautiful place don’t get me wrong,
但看着起伏又空荡荡的海洋蛮无聊的
but it's pretty boring just going up and down staring at empty ocean.
但偶尔碰到小绿洲 就会看到好多生命
But occasionally, you get little oases where the life just goes bananas.
现在就是
And right now, that is going bananas.
好 鸟在俯冲 饵球上来了
Okay. Birds are diving and the bait is up.
在哪里？就在那里 那里
Where is it?Right there. Right there.
好安静
BERTIE: It’s so quiet.
没有鲔鱼在身边游来游去 没有海豚的声音
No whoosh of tuna,no dolphin chatter....
只有一大团灯笼鱼的饵球
Just a planet-sized bait ball of lanternfish.
这些鱼住在深海里
These guys live in the deep
只有晚上才会浮上来吃浮游生物
and usually move towards the surface at night to feed on plankton.
那就是长吻飞旋海豚捕猎的时候
That’s when spinner dolphins normally hunt them.
它们是长吻飞旋海豚 主要的食物来源之一
They’re a key part of spinners' diet.
但灯笼鱼白天很少浮到水面
But lanternfish are rarely at the surface in the day.
这么多灯笼鱼显示海豚在捕猎
The scales in the water show that dolphins have been feeding.
所以海豚呢？
So where have they gone?

Look, Nico! Look! Here come the dolphins
它们来了
They’re coming.

We're gonna have a good surprise.
(DOLPHINS SQUEAKING)

BERTIE: That’s music to my ears!
(DOLPHINS SQUEAKING LOUDLY)
海豚回来了
BERTIE: The dolphins are back.
不是长吻飞旋海豚 是点斑原海豚
They’re not spinners,they’re spotted dolphins.
就像看着一个球队
It's like watching a sports team!
这个比赛是“别让鱼跑掉了”
And the game is, "Stop the fish escaping."
(SQUEAKING CONTINUES)
它们从下面吹泡泡
They’re blowing bubbles from below.
上升的气泡把灯笼鱼吓坏了
All that rising air spooks the lanternfish

and keeps them near the surface.
(DOLPHINS SQUEAKING)

BERTIE: I bet the birds are grateful.
(BIRDS SQUAWKING)

BERTIE: A youngster!Watching Mum, picking up tips.

BERTIE: This is a bit like hitting the jackpot.

Lanternfish are one of the most abundant fish on Earth,
吸引很多掠食者
and they draw a lot of predators in.
魔鬼鱼来了
Here comes another now...mobula rays.
曾经有人认为它们只吃浮游生物
They were once thought of as passive plankton feeders.
但是让它们看到一点饵球 它们就不行了
But show them a bait ball,and they’re anything but.
它们脸旁边的鳍叫头叶
Those flaps by their face are called cephalic lobes.
靠头叶把鱼送进嘴里
They use them to funnel fish into their mouths.

Oh, here we go.

Now the guided missiles of the fish world have arrived.

Yellowfin tuna, hundreds of them!
现在四种掠食者同时捕猎同样的食物
Now we’ve got four predators all after the same food.

You’d expect there to be a few collisions.
但是唯一遭殃的是灯笼鱼
But the only animals getting smashed are the lanternfish.

BERTIE: That’s it.The predators are off.

They've blasted that bait ball into smithereens...

All that’s left is a galaxy of tiny fish scales glinting in the water.
远渡重洋到很少人去过的地方搜寻
Coming out and searching a place that very few people ever go
是很让人谦卑的体验
has been a very humbling experience.
海洋绝对教会我很多
And I’ve definitely learned a lot from the ocean.
你要有耐心 要坚持到底
You need to be patient,you need to be persistent
最重要的是随机应变
and most of all you need to be adaptable
因为你永远不知道会看到什么
because you just never know what you’re going to see.
我也觉得很幸运 过度捕鱼 污染 以及海水温度上升
BERTIE: And I feel lucky too, overfishing,pollution, and rising water temperatures
影响世界各地的海洋 但看起来这个
are hammering oceans globally,but it seems like this little gem
宝贵的地方还没受到影响
of a place is hanging on.
这次探险的主要目标之一 就是试着拍到长吻飞旋海豚的
One of the main goals of this expedition was to try and film super pods
超级海豚群 很可惜我们没拍到
of spinner dolphins and,unfortunately, we haven’t managed
它们就这样神奇消失了
that mysteriously they’ve...they've just disappeared.
我猜当你想在开放海域寻找什么 就会遇上这种事
And I guess, that’s what happens when you search in the open ocean.
那些海豚在某个地方 我们只是没能找到它们
Those dolphins are somewhere,and we just haven’t managed to find them.
但开放海域神奇的地方就是 你可能没找到你要的
But the magic of the open ocean is that whilst it might deny you

some things, it gifts you others.

there are these hotspots of life that are home

to just the most insane,magical wildlife encounters.

BERTIE: Although we were trying to film dolphins, the biggest surprise
我们看到黄鳍鲔鱼的数量
was the number of yellowfin tuna we saw.
从国外工厂船被迫离岸起
Since foreign factory ships were pushed offshore,
每个我问过的本地渔夫都说
all the local fishermen I spoke to said that numbers have recovered
这里鱼的数量恢复了
in this one spot.
这是一个小胜利 但也显现
It's a small victory, but shows what can happen
当我们阻止工厂在一个地区滥捕 让自然自己复原
when we stop factory fishing in an area and let nature heal itself.
对野生动物和本地渔夫都是好消息
That's good news for wildlife and local fishermen.
