I grew up in Michigan,

And I wanted to do something personal this time,

The problem is when you get there,

You might have literally nothing. I had nothing.

Trying to come up with an idea is a little like falling in love.

there's really very little you can do to make sure it happens.

And so I just started thinking about my own life

and who I am and what I have to offer.

And then, asking myself questions about what are my fears about those things?

And it's incredibly personal stuff,

And then as I left,

I remember walking back and just turning two cards over.

I didn't realize this picture still existed. I've never seen this.

When Dan told me that he was doing a film about our lives,

it was kind of emotional.

He wanted me to look up every picture that I had of his dad

and he asked me what he was like and all that.

My dad died when I was a year old.

My brother was three, so we never knew him and have no memory of him.

It's certainly a pretty big part of my life and part of my story.

The tricky thing about it is I realized I don't have a lot of feelings about it.

I haven't had a lot of terrible things happen in my life.

I learned about him from people talking about him.

I learned about him from pictures that are around.

So, I think I have an idea of who my father is.
