They take advantage of the coral reef drop-off
into deeper water,

Soon the iguana eggs will hatch.

laying them in the soft sand...

Finally, the seasons change.

The cold water current arrives, signaled by heavy cloud overhead.

As the hot equatorial sun interacts with the cold of the current,

a dense mist forms, bringing cooler temperatures.

The albatrosses are more comfortable now.

In this booby nest, both chicks have a better chance of surviving,

with plenty of fish for the parents to catch.

Native black-striped salemas benefit from the nutrient-rich current too.

The penguins gratefully take advantage.

This year, at least, the animals will have plenty

on the otherwise barren Western Galapagos islands.
